Highlights

Viasat is a global communications company with products that span areas of consumer, commercial, and government products. Viasat produces products that deliver in-flight wifi, encrypted government communication devices, and high-capacity broadband satellites. I worked at Viasat for 3-years in both Quality Engineering (Operations) and Mechanical Engineering Roles.

Overview

*Limited product specific information due to classified nature of products

Product quality engineering is all about making things work repeatedly at scale. My role brought me to factories around the world as I solved problems, fixated on efficiency, and gained an eye for how human systems break down.

Product Quality Engineering

Making things work at scale

Process makes perfect

In manufacturing military hardware, there is no room for error. To make things "perfect", you have to build iron clad processes. Through creating, fixing, and auditing processes I gained invaluable operational skills that have transferred too all of my work.

At Viasat, I made sure millions of dollars worth of communications hardware was produced at the highest military standard and ready to ship each year.

Managing complexity

Manufacturing is a complex dance between suppliers, assemblers, management, and so much more. Immersing in this ecosystem has given me a perspective for managing teams that I couldn't have gotten anywhere else.

Certification:

Lean Six-Sigma Black Belt

After extensive training and completing a large process improvement project that saved the company 400k, I was awarded a Lean Six-Sigma Black Belt, the highest accreditation in process improvement/development skills.

Mechanical Engineering

Satellite Design

I led the design of several mid-sized satellite prototypes for Viasat. I worked collaboratively with program leads and engineers to document, render, and prepare my work for review. These designs were completed in SolidWorks and required me to quickly learn about space flight constraints, radio communications, and cutting edge antenna technology.
